Thursday, October 01, 2009 Save the playgrounds

been browsing lots and lots of online photo references for tomorrow's photoshoot.
have yet to get an ultra solid theme in my head.

but as i searched,
many images nostalgically appeared

yes, dad drove past this when we picked mom up from work today.
I remember being there with yinsiu when we stayed with ahma at block 30.
having those 30cents vanilla cup ice cream and on the slides.

then my quest for old school playgrounds began.
first it was those on tv with the penguin shape structures, apparently they are at pasir ris.

i remember the first rubber playgrounds in hougang is the one near mrs neo's block,
then next came to auntie's block.
rubber was cool then! cause when you play catching, the sand wont fly,
you can run faster
and your feet dont get all sandy.

i remember the simple swing, the wooden see saw, the metal slides that came in 2 heights.
painted in worn out blue and white.
it's like being in paradise when mom allows me and kor to go play, even if it meant 5 mins.
of course, i got hurt in the eye at that playground.
cause some neighbourhood kid threw sand at me and it went into my eye.
and i got kicked by some kid on the swings.
all these made going to playground even more difficult.
i hope i did have photos taken there before!

i remember the dragon playground few blocks down.
those with the tire swings!
they are my favouritest.
being young- and short, it wasnt a problem to get under the main playground structure.
and i remember mom and dad having to bend their bodies to take care of us when we go crazy on the tires.
the concrete playgrounds had those wooden suspension bridge too!

i remember lying to auntie and went to block 336 playground with minjun after school when i was in p5 or 6.
the slides there are awesome!
they are like 40 degrees of steepness and ultra wide, impossible to have hand grip.
they were still there a few years back.
and i took photo of it when they started to block off the place.
but that photo was in a phone i wrecked!

oh wells, the blk 11 market with great caitaokuay is also gone.
never had any photos of it- and it'll remain a regret for me and dad.
